Recent activities by the Food and Drug Administration have resulted in numerous recalls of various tree nuts including macadamias, walnuts and Brazil nuts. Manufacturers are quickly moving to protect their customers and their brands by adding an intervention step into their HACCP plans to reduce the rate of salmonella and other pathogenic contamination.

With tens of millions of pounds pasteurized per year technology, H2O Express(TM) leads the tree nut pasteurization market. A recent article published by NPR notes,

"Handlers open hundreds of boxes destined for the steaming vats. Almonds aren't the only crop treated here: The facility also processes sunflower seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, pecans, pistachios, cashews, sun-dried tomatoes, dried apricots, dried strawberries and dried blueberries."

All of those agricultural commodities and many more are treated at our contract processing facilities in California, New Jersey, Nevada and South Dakota. Our customers from around the world are using the technology at manufacturing facilities to improve the safety and quality of their products. The spice industry is adopting the technology for treating a variety of commodities from like black pepper, sage, and cinnamon. As implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act continues to highlight the need for pasteurizing these products we anticipate increasing demand for H2O Express and our other pasteurization technologies.

Testing by the Almond Board of California, by the University of California at Davis and Rutgers University have shown that the pasteurized nuts are indistinguishable from unpasteurized product. Not only do the products we treat taste great, they are safer to eat.
